George Ripley was the founder of Brook Farm, Massachusetts. Ripley was a Protestant minister who wanted to achieve "a more natural union of intellect and manual labor" and perfection. The Oneida system was used since Minister Ripley wanted perfection so they practiced polygamy, communal property, and communal raising of children. But, because they strived for perfection in the human race, they constantly failed.

New Harmony was a Utopian Vision caused by Robert Owens. Believed all members of New Harmony, men and women, were created equal. The idea aimed for perfection and obviously failed. New Harmony was also a testing environment to see if people lived in a cooperative environment they could live their full potential.

Shakers are a Utopian group created by Ann Lee, they prohibited marriage, sexual relations, skilled in complete celibacy and temperance for equality. Shakers wanted economic, social, and spiritual equality. They were primarily known as the "Shaking Quakers" because of their joyful dancing during worship services.
Temperance was a protest reform that encouraged others to avoid the consumption of alcohol so the government can add alcohol laws to regulate the accessibility of alcohol. American Temperance Society was created by Lyman Beacher where over 100,000 members pledged to abstain liquor. Women and children were key supporters of this movement because it supported the woman's suffrage. The Temperance act was also a part of the Cultural War.
